Qurban

Qurban means sacrifice. Every year, during Eid al-Adha, Muslims around the world slaughter an animal – typically a sheep, goat, camel or cow – to commemorate the Prophet Ibrahim and his ultimate sacrifice. The animal sacrificed is then divided into three equal portions with one third shared with the needy, one third distributed to relatives and neighbours, and the remainder kept for one’s own family.

Qurban is slaughtered during the days of Eid Al-Adha as an act of worship, intending to draw closer to Allah thereby. It is one of the rituals of Islam prescribed in the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (pbuh). Qurban is a Compulsory Sunnah of our Prophet (pbuh) and it is of great value of reward. Throughout this occasion, we should not forget the poor and needy in the world who experience Eid whilst they are suffering hunger and poverty due to conflict and natural disasters.
